A person who laced treats with sedative and provided them to minors at a summer program in the region has admitted sexual offenses against two boys both nine and ten years old.
The defendant was arrested after eight minors and an older person fell ill at the location in July.
The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he stood at the judicial center on recently.
Nevertheless, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was against a young boy.
The defendant was kept in jail before a further hearing on November 28th.
'Candy game'
The legal representative, prosecuting, detailed Ruben's offending to the court.
She explained his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer program which he managed.
Ruben played a "treat game" with the children, the legal counsel explained, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were settling down and tell them to consume candy "rapidly".
She stated to the judge Ruben had engaged in this activity with the young males "repeatedly", and minors had previously fallen ill the next day.
She said the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had worries in July 2025.
The legal representative added: "In the summer" his stepson had suspicions about the activities, for good reason.
"They decided to examine in the individual's items."
The prosecutor stated objects including infant oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were discovered, and his stepchild contacted the police about his suspicions.
She stated the defendant proceeded to conduct the "sweet game" with six boys that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"Authorities" had not responded by that point," she added.
The oversight body, the police conduct office, had stated that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the events.
Mrs Prior explained the minors were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the family member contacted the law enforcement once more.
She explained the man then played the "candy game" in a area of five minors.
